The Kalki Trilogy (Set of 3 Books) by Satyajit Ray is a collection of three short stories that take place in different time periods. The first story, "Avatar of Vishnu," is set in the 13th century, and tells the story of a young prince, who falls in love with a courtesan. After much turmoil, they finally marry and move to the palace. They are blessed with a son, and one day, the prince and his son see a vision of a golden chariot with a man with a white body and golden wings on the horizon. The second story, "Eye of Brahma," is set in the 18th century and tells the story of a young Brahmin who falls in love with a courtesan. The courtesan is always talking about death, so he's determined to find out why. When he finally does, he decides to leave everything behind and go on an adventure. The third story, "Sword of Shiva," is set in the 20th century and tells the story of an Indian woman who travels to India after her father passes away. Avatar of Vishnu: When a godly being, Lord Vishnu, descends to earth in order to protect the land of Kalki, an Indian prince, the people of Kalki believe he is the reincarnation of the Hindu god. However, Lord Vishnu finds it difficult to fit into the ways of this modern world. Meanwhile, the world's most evil creature, King Kalki, takes advantage of the confusion and schemes to make himself the ruler of Kalki. But with Lord Vishnu's help, King Kalki's evil reign will soon come to an end. Eye of Brahma: In this book, a young man named Moti discovers he is able to see into the future and can influence the world with his visions. But when he is caught in a web of government intrigue, Moti finds it difficult to trust his visions. The journey to find out if his visions are true takes him on a journey through India and Egypt. Sword of Shiva: This book tells the story of a 14-year-old boy named Shankar who, after being orphaned, travels to the mountain of Kailash with his brother to meet their grandfather, who had sent them a letter telling them that they would find their father there. When they arrive, they find their grandfather in an abandoned monastery, who tells them that their father had been murdered and that they need to find the sword of Shiva to destroy King Kalki.
